New report: Culture as Motor

This spring, three seminars were held, in Lillehammer, Verdal and Vadsø, focusing on the potential of culture as a motor for urban as well as rural development. The core of these seminars was to bring forward successful cases from similar regions in  Norway and Sweden, for scrutiny and inspiration.

The seminars were arranged by the Forum with financial support from the Ministry of Local Government and Reigonal Development.

Building Networks

Forum for Arts and Business is presently strengthening its presence in all parts of the country. During this year the forum will establish regional and local networks. These will make the Forum for Arts and Business more visible and assertive, as well as giving the members even more reasons to be actively involved in the forum.

Knowledge, Inspiration and meeting points

The Nodes of this network will involve a wide range of competence and contacts, ranging from trade councils and research environments to cultural institutions and cultural companies. All of these will contribute to the Forum’s impact in the regions.

- We want to stay what we´ve always been: a good meeting point for arts and business. But even more, even better, and for lots more – all over the country, says Elizabeth C. Bjørn-Hansen, director of Forum for Arts and Business.

The nodes are here!

The nodes in the regional network are up-and-ready.

The government introduces an action plan for arts and business

On June 25th 2007 the Norwegian government launched an action plan with 25 new measures worth 50,5 million NOK to encourage the creative industry. The goal is to strengthen business development and creative companies throughout the country to make the local communities more attractive to live in than they are today, especially for young people.

The action plan was presented by three ministers: The Minister of Trade and Industry Dag Terje Andersen, the Minister of Culture Trond Giske and the Regional Minister Åslaug Haga.

An inspiring and good plan

- This is an inspiring and good plan, comments director Elizabeth Bjørn-Hansen Forum for Arts and business. – With this plan the government is setting Norway on the map as one of the most ambitious countries worldwide when it comes to focusing on arts and business .The fact that the plan is backed up by cross section of ministries, even more than the three that launched the plan is unique. I don’t know of any other countries that have taken such a perspective on arts and businss and the creative industries.

- At the same time it is very inspiring for the Forum of Arts and Business to get the opportunity to strengthen our organisation and get the muscles we need to increase our activities throughout the country. We are ready to meet the challenges, and will do our best to meet the ambitious goals set by the action plan.

They need people with overall experience from the business world, as well as experts in strategy, finance and law.

Forum for Arts and Business are now creating a board pool: Competent people from both arts and business are invited to report their interest.
